Verification is not a mood; it is a list of places to look. For IICT, three lookups return something concrete.
IICT holds a registration on the societies register — the Act of 1860 — and has worked from Lucknow since 1997 as an autonomous institute. That registration is the institute’s verifiable legal identity: a body that exists, has operated for nearly three decades, and takes the same legal form the IIMs themselves used for most of their history. What it cannot do — and was never meant to do — is convert an institute diploma into a regulated degree.
Separately, IICT holds the centre seat for Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU) of Meerut, which carries NAAC A accreditation and whose distance MBA ranks as a UGC-entitled degree. The roles are strict: teaching, mentoring and study support belong to IICT; degree and entitlement belong to the university. The check that applies here is not AICTE at all — it is SVSU’s UGC-DEB entitlement, confirmed against the university’s name.
One IICT credential can be read in documents a listed company must publish. Three statutory annual reports in a row — PNB Housing Finance’s filings covering FY22-23, FY23-24 and FY24-25 — list, among the qualifications of Girish Kousgi (MD & CEO of IIFL Home Finance; before that, the same office at PNB Housing Finance), an executive master’s diploma in Business Administration taken from IICT. Treat it as exactly one checkable data point — not evidence of typical outcomes. One CEO is not a placement statistic.
The search that produces nothing — and why that is the correct result
Run IICT through any AICTE approval lookup and you will find no entry. A verifier’s instinct is to read an empty result as exposure — something hidden, something revoked. Here it is neither. AICTE approval is something an institution applies for and holds for specific programmes. IICT has not held it, does not advertise it, and does not present its diplomas as AICTE-approved qualifications. There is no approval to find because none was ever claimed. The register is answering a question that does not apply to this category of institution.
The cleanest precedent for the category is the IIMs. Only in 2018, with the IIM Act, did the IIMs gain degree powers; before that each was an autonomous body on the same 1860 register, and its award was the PGDM, a postgraduate-level diploma. Nobody treated the IIM diploma as second-rate because a register somewhere had no entry for it. The lesson is not that IICT is an IIM. The lesson is that “diploma awarded by an autonomous society” is an established category in Indian management education, and the honest questions to ask of it concern teaching quality and fit for your purpose — not a regulator approval that does not exist for institute diplomas.
Read the certificate, not the brochure
Everything above collapses into one habit: identify which of two entirely different documents is in front of you. They come from different bodies, answer to different registers, and serve different requirements.

- Legal character: an autonomous institute’s own diploma — not a degree, and outside both AICTE and UGC purview.
- What to verify: the institute’s Societies Act registration and its own published programme terms.
- What not to expect: any regulator approval record. It does not exist for this document, and IICT does not say it does.

Where an IICT diploma will not serve — say it plainly
If a job notification, a government rule or a further-degree admission specifies a UGC-recognised degree or an AICTE-approved programme, an institute diploma will not satisfy it. No amount of verification changes that, because the approval does not exist to find. For that requirement, the degree route in this arrangement is the SVSU distance MBA, checked through UGC-DEB.
If instead you are choosing a programme for skills and private-sector use, you are in the territory where autonomous diplomas have always lived, and the sensible checks shift from registers to substance: the syllabus, the teaching, and the institute’s own record. The employers in IICT’s record — HDFC, Reliance, Tata, the Indian Army, ICICI — span corporate India and the public sector; read the list as something to weigh, not a promise to rely on.
